The Bare Fats
25.11.2009
So what is the issue with Fat? I love Fat, it’s good for you!
I cannot imagine a diet without Fat, in fact it must be quite dull. Food should be a pleasurable experience but the more you cut out of your diet the less pleasurable it becomes. So why do so many of us have a problem with eating Fat? Good Fat doesn’t make you fat. It’s the bad fat that you find in cakes, biscuits and crisps that make you fat. I eat bacon and avocado, lamb chops and an apple or sausages and pears regularly for breakfast and there is nothing better than crispy organic bacon rind and Im not fat!
So lets go back in time a bit and look at the diet of our Mothers and Fathers or Grandmothers and Grandfathers. They cooked with lard and butter and ate fresh produce and fresh cuts from the butcher. There was no low fat alternative. They cooked in beef dripping and ate dumplings. They looked great with tiny waists and broad shoulders. Today there is more bad fat than you can imagine starring us in the face where ever we go. Sometimes you can struggle to buy anything with nutritious value in shops as most foods have been around the world, injected, heated, treated, preserved, added with sugar, salt e numbers, soya, gluten the list goes on then wrapped in plastic before we we have the pleasure of eating it! Yummy sounds healthy! Yet today we are a fatter society than our parents and grandparents era and yet we eat low fat or no fat food! Something doesn’t add up. Could it be that fat is actually good for you? We got fat because we stopped moving our lifestyles changed,we went form walking to school to being driven, from playing outside to playing a computer game. However we blamed animal fat so we threw out the butter, cut the rind off the bacon and bought everything with a low fat label and guess what? We are still fat! The difference is that the low fat alternative you eat thinking your making a good healthy choice is loaded with sugar ,salt and preservative etc.
So what to do? Well make eating a pleasurable experience, if it came form an animal that grazed in wild organic pastures or a fish that swam in the wild, if it grew up from the ground or fell of a tree then you can be safe in knowing that its good for you. Make food your medicine not your poison, we feed ourselves 5 -6 times a day. Do not feel guilty for eating a scrumptious meal loaded with taste, its good for you and makes you happy. Embrace fat!
