The Pull UP

01.12.2009

Pull ups are completely different to the conventional Lat pulldown machine. The recruitment of muscles are different. It is a tough exercise and a big calorie burner. To be able to pull your own bodyweight up is a great show of physical strength and muscular co-ordination. It is a fantastic exercise for the big Latissimus Dorsi muscle which is the only muscle in the body to connect from the pelvis, spine and shoulders. As it crosses so many joints it is a great stabiliser of the upper and lower body. When this muscle is exercised correctly it helps maintain healthy shoulder blades and enhances the ‘V’ taper of the upper body which creates an aesthetically pleasing look.

The pull up is one of my favourite exercises... I do mine whilst walking the dog in the park...bang out a few sets and you just feel everything tighten up and become stable
